The city of San Francisco is looking into a law that will ban merchants from providing customers with single-use plastic straws. The proposed legislation is an effort to protect marine life, which suffers from pollution and litter that has unfortunately become pervasive in not just the Bay area, but around the world.

THE MISSION DAILY LISTEN NOW

In this episode of The Mission Daily, we discuss Outwitting the Devil, a book that was suppressed and went unpublished for over 70 years! Although Napoleon Hill may be known best for Think and Grow Rich, we think Outwitting the Devil is his best work — and best-kept secret.

We dive into what the term “devil” means in this book, how to avoid becoming a “drifter”, and why creating your own definition of evil in the world is the first step to creating a better future.

The Tenth Principle of Accelerated Learning: Fellowship

In this episode, we cover 7 keys to friendship, teams, culture, and fellowship.

Fellowship goes past superficial acquaintances and fake friends into the realm of empowering relationships where both people are improved as a result of collaborating together.

The best definition of technology we’ve heard is, “Doing more with less.” These 7 keys will help you and those you care about, “do more with less”. The average friendship or workplace are anti-technological. They are usually steeped in physical and mental sickness. But that doesn’t have to be the case.

Fostering healthy teams and fellowship is possible with the right habits and squad goals. So never fear. The seven keys of fellowship are here! ?

Get those reps in! ?

Resistance exercise training (RET) has been linked to a reduction in depression symptoms among participants in recent clinical trials. Even better — it seems like the practice of simply doing the workouts yielded the sunnier outlook. ?

According to the authors, the results of the study were consistent regardless of the participants’ overall health, or how much strength they gained from doing the exercises.

It’s graduation season, which means a new generation of people is heading into the workforce. ?

Whether you’re in that group or know someone who is, it’s never a bad idea to get a handle on how new grads should expect to manage their finances now that they’re out in the real world.

Budgets are important, as is making sure there’s a plan in place to manage any debt, but one big thing young folks overlook is setting money aside for retirement. According to Student Loan Hero, that’s one of the biggest goals any recent college grad should set for him or herself.

“‘Investing early in life, even if it’s a relatively small amount, adds up quickly when you have decades until retirement,’ advised Dina Isola, a financial adviser at Ritholtz Wealth Management and personal finance blogger at Real$martica.

Isola also stressed that you should treat contributions to retirement savings as a bill you must pay, just like rent, and advised working up to saving around 20% of income, doing so slowly if necessary.”

Wisdom

According to retired Navy SEAL Jocko Willink, the way to be a successful leader is not through giving orders. Instead, a good leader focuses on building trust and having those in your command want to work for you.

In a recent podcast with Business Insider, Willink, who has written books about leadership and works as a speaker for corporate clients, revealed a story about one request he got to come in and “whip employees into shape”:

“I said, ‘Well, if you want someone to whip your people into shape, you should hire someone else, because I’m not going to whip anyone into shape.’ If you want people to do things, you don’t whip them. You ended up with a beaten dog, and a beaten dog is useless. Or you’ll get a rebellion. The people that you’re beating, the slaves, will rebel against you and kill you.”

You may never physically enter space’s orbit, but that doesn’t mean you’ll have to miss out on the experience of space travel.

A UK-based initiative called SpaceTime Enterprises is using multiple satellites to broadcast images of space back to earth. The company will then turn those images into a virtual reality experience for earthlings who want to expand their minds without breaking their banks to hop on board Elon Musk’s rockets.

This doesn’t suck…

The city of San Francisco is looking into a law that will ban merchants from providing customers with single-use plastic straws. The proposed legislation is an effort to protect marine life, which suffers from pollution and litter that has unfortunately become pervasive in not just the Bay area, but around the world.

Paper straws, while more expensive, are set to replace their plastic brethren. And many retailers are OK with the added costs because they see an opportunity to also market more-durable and reusable metal straws to customers.
